A new statistical model has predicted the date and impact of each of the 50 U.S. states during the coronavirus outbreak.
Sponsored:
The University of Washington’s Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation (IHME) produced the new forecasting model that “produced projections very similar” to the model being used by the White House.
The IHME forecast predicts the total coronavirus related deaths to hit 81,776 total in the U.S. The peak day for medical resouces is expected to be April 15. The model predicts the worst day for deaths will be April 16, when 2,644 coronavirus patients are expected to die.
IHME’s “research is a preprint, meaning it has not yet been peer reviewed,” The Hill wrote. “The peer review process is a vital part of assessing new medical research and identifies weaknesses in its assumptions, methods and conclusions.”
“Ultimately, these forecasts were developed to provide hospitals, health care workers, policymakers, and the public with crucial information about what demands COVID-19 may place on hospital capacity and resources, so that they could begin to plan,” the IHME wrote in their model’s release.
