“This is the day the Lord has made, let us be glad and rejoice in it” (Psalm 118:24)
This year, it is not easy for us to participate in the celebrations of the Sacred Triduum: Holy Thursday, Good Friday and Easter. Many of you cannot go to Church because of the coronavirus. We have tried the best we can to worship God. It is very important for us to celebrate the Sacred Triduum in which we remember Jesus Christ truly died on the cross, rose up from the dead and ascended into haven.
What Scriptures talk about the resurrection of the dead:
“But your dead shall live, their corpses shall rise! Awake and sing, you who lie in the dust! For your dew is a dew of light, and you cause the land of shades to give birth.” (Isaiah 26:19). “Many of those who sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake; Some to everlasting life, others to reproach and everlasting disgrace” (Daniel 12:2). “Having a hope in God, which these men themselves accept, that there will be a resurrection of both the just and the unjust” (Acts 24:15).
What Scriptures talk about Jesus resurrection:
Saint Paul says that Jesus was raised from the dead with real and glorified body, becoming “the first‐born from the dead” (Col 1:18; cf. Rev 1:5). “You are looking for Jesus the Nazarene, who was crucified. He has risen!” (Mark 16:6). Jesus said to Mary that do not hold him, for he has not yet ascended to the Father; but go to his brethren and say to them, hi is ascending to his Father and her Father, to his God and her God” (Jn 20:16–17). The angel said to the women “Do not be afraid, for I know that you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified. He is not here; he has risen, just as he said” (Matthew 28:5-6).
Jesus’ resurrection is hope for the dead: we believe that Jesus died and rose again, and so we believe that God will bring with Jesus those who have fallen asleep in him (1 Thessalonians 4:14). For if we have been united with him in a death like his, we will certainly also be united with him in a resurrection like his. For we know that our old self was crucified with him so that the body ruled by sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves to sin (Rm 6:5-6).
Dear Sisters and Brothers,
Let the Easter celebration fill us with hope in Christ, breaking open our tombs of worries, fear, and sin. May the blessings of Easter bring new life to all of us.
Happy Easter!
Fr Peter
